Center for Neighborhoods has been engaging with Parkland neighbors for many years, and in 2019 a Better Block Louisville planning process emerged as an opportunity to bring shared community vision to life in a tangible way. After countless hours of community input, scheming, dreaming, and actual construction, Better Block went off without a hitch, creating a space for neighbors to gather and celebrate in the heart of the Parkland Central Business District.
That Better Block Louisville project led to what is now called the Parkland Plaza—a permanent installation right in the middle of downtown Parkland. Construction began in 2021, and we’re excited to celebrate the new space, borne out of the ideas, desires, and vision of Parkland residents, at the Grand Opening block party on July 23rd.
Here is a look back on the progress of the Parkland Plaza project, which has transformed a hot, deteriorated parking lot into a vibrant gathering space for the neighbors of Parkand.
