Cheers to 50 Years

Our history began in 1972, when the Louisville Community Design Center was founded. What started as a humble, focused effort to correct old habits and ways of thinking in urban design and architecture, has transformed over 50 years into Center For Neighborhoods, a community-centered organization that puts neighbors at the center of everything we do. Our work is dictated and driven by our Louisville neighbors, and we consider it our mission to engage with our neighbors to help them build the neighborhoods they dream for themselves.

In celebration of 50 years of connection, community engagement, neighborhood improvement, and community education, we are taking stock of how we got here, our achievements, and where we’re going. Once a week for 50 weeks we will post to our blog in reflection and celebration of our work, and we hope you’ll follow along.

A note from our Executive Director

It feels to me like CFN’s 50th anniversary parallels my own experience of making it 50 years in this world.  In fifty years, CFN has done so much for Louisville, learned the neighborhoods inside and out, but we are still open to learning so much more as an organization. When I first landed in Louisville and started working at CFN, I was amazed at all the things we do. The list is too long to mention here, but the basic idea is captured in our mission: “Engaging with neighbors to build great neighborhoods”.

We have some very special things planned for this 50th anniversary!  I’m looking forward to this year, and I hope you will join us in celebrating our achievements and the connections we’ve made over 50 years of engaging our neighbors.
