Planning & Design Services
Center for Neighborhoods seeks to support neighbors in planning for the future of their communities. We use a variety of methods to ensure people are at the center, and we are using data-driven, equitable, and engaging processes in order to develop a broadly-held vision and feasible strategies to implement it.
We use tools that start at the grassroots and adapt to support neighbors as they problem-solve for their own communities. Through Better Block and PAINT, we use small and mid-size projects to quickly and creatively activate neighborhoods. With mapping, we support independent and collective research on neighborhood-level topics. And we use long-term strategies to vision for the future through neighborhood assessment and planning.
Our Legacy of Neighborhood Planning
Center For Neighborhoods is the original Louisville Community Design Center, founded in 1972 on the principles of social justice and community-centered design. We believe neighborhoods should have influence over how their community is developed. For 50 years, Center for Neighborhoods has produced and partnered on many neighborhood plans and community projects. We continue to advocate for and develop more inclusive and equitable planning processes and equip neighbors with effective plans for their communities.
